Assystem is a member of the BDLI
Hamburg 25th January 2012 - At the beginning of 2012, Assystem GmbH became a member of the German Aviation and Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI). The association, consisting of 190 members, represent the interests of the German aviation and aerospace industry.
As a strategic engineering service company to many prestigious customers from the aviation, aerospace and turbo machines industry in Germany, Assystem are very pleased to become a member of the BDLI and look forward to contributing the extensive know-how of its employees into the association's work within regulatory boards and technical committees.
Ulrich O. Assystem Acquires MPH: The acquisition consolidates Assystem's positions in energy and in the global marketplace
(Paris – 25 July 2011) – Assystem, an international engineering and innovation consultancy, announced today that it has agreed to acquire family-owned engineering services provider MPH. The transaction is aligned with Assystem's acquisitions-led growth strategy in that it will strengthen the Group's positions in the fast-growing energy industry, particularly in the oil and gas segment, and expand its ability to serve customers outside France.
With the acquisition of MPH, Assystem now has the resources it needs to leverage the market opportunities created by the strong growth in global energy demand, led by emerging economies, and by the increasing complexity of accessing and producing fossil fuels. Assystem now boasts:
- An offering that covers the full spectrum of energy-related engineering services, thanks to a significantly strengthened position in the oil and gas segment.
- Broadened construction management capabilities, which play a key role in the nuclear, oil and gas segments and in infrastructure.
- A Middle East-based structure capable of providing support for complex infrastructure projects in energy and environment-related industries anywhere in the world.
MPH has been providing owner engineering support and EPCM services on complex infrastructure projects for over 25 years. Backed by the skills of its 1,000 employees, the company generated annual revenue of around €90 million in 2010, of which two thirds from its international operations. MPH has close, long-standing relationships with such clients as Total,
Technip, Lafarge and Areva, and is supporting their expansion into global markets. French and international oil and gas companies account for 75% of the company's revenue.
The transaction will close in two steps: first, on 28 July, for the MPH French business, then, within the coming weeks, for the Middle-East/ Africa entity.

Assystem Deutschland Holding GmbH: Moving up the top 25 in Lünendonk® Ranking
Assystem Deutschland Holding GmbH has been ranked 17 in the current market-barometer; the Lünendonk® list ‚Führende Anbieter von Technologie-Beratung und Engineering Services in Deutschland'. This affirms Assystem's position
among the most outstanding engineering service providers in Germany.
For the fifth year in a row, Assystem Deutschland Holding GmbH has not only maintained its position within the top 25 companies in the industry, but since last year, it has successfully improved its ranking by five places. The list, released on 18 July 2011 by the renowned market research company Lünendonk GmbH in Kaufbeuren is based on turnover and staff numbers in Germany.
Although in the past year Assystem has only able to realize a slight organic growth due to the tense situation in recruiting, also having to deal with the challenging situation in capacity utilization, revenue has been stable and fluctuation kept within a narrow band. The signs of a continued positive development in business are good. A strong expansion in the area of embedded systems through this year's acquisition of Berner & Mattner, not yet included in the relevant figures for the 2010 ranking, plus additional inorganic growth opportunity, good capacity utilization and the perspective to continue development into a leading engineering supplier make Assystem optimistic about the future. In addition to Assystem's increasing status in the fields of Aerospace and Turbo Machines, the company is also on track with its progress into the areas of Electronic-/EmbeddedSystems, Automotive, Energy / Plant Engineering and Rail / Transportation.

Assystem acquires Berner & Mattner
Increasing skills and revenues in Germany with a focus on Embedded Systems.
Assystem, a leading international engineering and innovation consultancy, has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Berner & Mattner, enhancing the Group's offering in embedded systems and strengthening its presence in Germany.
Berner & Mattner is a German company that specialises in the specification, development and testing of embedded electronic systems, totalling revenues of 28 million euros in 2010. Founded in 1979 by Hans Berner and Adolf Mattner, the company has achieved an average growth of 25% over the past four years and enjoys a solid reputation on the market. Today, the company is 286 employees strong, headquartered in Munich with offices in Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Ingolstadt, Wolfsburg and Vienna (Austria). Regarded as a niche player, Berner & Mattner has developed longstanding relationships with leading European manufacturers mostly in the automotive and transportation markets, such as Daimler, BMW, Bombardier and Siemens.
According to a report¹ ordered by the French Ministry of Digital Economy at the end of last year, the market for electronic and IT embedded systems has grown by 7% every year since 2002 and should keep growing faster. In this fast-growing engineering market segment, France and Germany are top global players capitalizing on their leadership in key industries such as Aerospace and Automotive. Today, a third of the total cost of an aircraft is related to embedded systems, while 20% of the cost of a car comes from their design and implementation.
With the acquisition of Berner & Mattner, Assystem strengthens its position in electronic and IT embedded systems reaching a revenue in the range of 100 million euros in this sole segment. The two companies benefit from strong complementary customer portfolios that are to give Assystem a key edge in the aerospace, automotive, defence and transportation industries in Europe.
In Germany, the acquisition of Berner & Mattner enhances Assystem's presence locally to more than 1,100 employees and revenues close to 100 million euros. This is a first step for Assystem on the path of reaching a significant and broader position on the German engineering market. Thus, executing the Group's strategy to develop in one of the major industrial European countries Assystem will be able to support Berner & Mattner's development, bringing the German company critical size, market access and new capabilities including offshoring. Berner & Mattner's top management team embraces this change and will remain in position to lead the company towards success and contribute to the building up of a stronger Assystem in Germany.
¹ Rapport POTIER – Briques Génériques du Logiciel Embarqué – October 2010 "We are looking forward to joining Assystem and giving a new dimension to the business I founded 30 years ago. With the growth prospects in embedded systems in Germany and worldwide, I believe it is the right time to benefit from the scale and reputation of an international company whose engineering skills are valued by leading market players," comments Hans Berner, CEO and Founder of Berner & Mattner.
